How to Get to Lyon & Fell?

Directions to the SF Urban House
Here's the front door- awaiting your entrance at 1:00 PM on Move-In Day. But how do you get yourself from where you are to where this is?Here are some handy directions (beyond what even Mapquest might tell you):
DRIVING: AAGH! There is no parking, repeat- no parking available except on the street (and not much of that). The good news- its a Sunday when you move in, so you can double park during the time services are going on around the corner. So plan on coming, off-loading stuff, and then have the driver find a place nearby to park.
FROM THE PENINSULA & SOUTH: North on 101 you'll follow the signs for Octavia St. and Fell St. (and the Golden Gate Bridge). The freeway will end on Octavia which, if you just stay with it through several lights, will place you on to Fell (a one way street). If you wish to take the 280, follow until it becomes 19th Street in the City. Turn right onto Lincoln just before entering Golden Gate Park. Lincoln winds past Kezar Stadium and become Oak. Follow Oak to Baker and turn left and at the next light turn left onto Fell. You are one block away from Lyon St.
ONCE ON FELL: Go up over the hill, past Divisidero, and look for a large tan building on your right. Just after it is Lyon street and the Urban house is the gorgeous Victorian on the corner, decked out in its new dark blue paint job.
FROM THE EAST BAY & EAST: Follow I-80 West to the Bay Bridge. After you exit the Bay Bridge, look for the signs pointing you to 101 North and the Golden Gate Bridge, then follow signs for Octavia and Fell. See the directions "ONCE ON FELL", above, for the rest of the way.
FROM THE NORTH BAY & NORTH (Using 101): Come across the Golden Gate Bridge and follow signs for Downtown. Exit onto Lombard St. and stay in the right land until you can turn right onto Divisidero St. Follow up and over the famous hills of Pacific Heights and turn right onto Fell St. Follow the directions "ONCE ON FELL", above ,the rest of the way.
FROM SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA: (Using 101). Out of the Santa Barbara area, 101 is a convenient way to come north. It will takje about 5 hours from SB. Once you come to San Jose, follow directions labelled "FROM THE PENNINSULA", above.
(Using I-5): Exit I-5 at the 205 (West) exit and follow it until it ends at 580 (West). Follow 580 West toward Oakland and then follow directions labelled "FROM THE EAST BAY", above.
FROM NORTHERN CALIFORNIA (Using I-5): Before you come to Sacramento, take the 505 turnoff toward San Francisco. This will intersect with the I-80. Head wset on I-80 and follow the directions labelled "FROM THE EAST BAY", above.
FLYING: SHUTTLES
San Francisco International Airport (SFO): A shuttle service such as Super Shuttle can be arranged to take you door to door. Just make reservations on line ahead, collect your bags and join in with a shared van. (This works from Oakland International Airport, OAK, also, but NOTE: for OAK you must have revservations.). To locate Shuttles, you need to collect your baggage, go outside to where the "Door-to-Door Vans" signs are and speak with one of the transportation coordinators there. Often, if you have reservations, there is a number you can call on your receipt to let the shuttle know you are ready for pick-up.
FLYING: PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
San Francisco International Airport (SFO): Collect your bags and follow the signs for BART. You can pay for your ticket to the Civic Center stop at the BART ticket machines (cash- the machine gives change, and ATM cards can be used). Hold on to your ticket throughout your trip. Board the train for San Francisco. There are readable maps everywhere to see where you will disembark. Once off the BART, you will go through a turnstile into which you need to insert your ticket. If you have paid enough, it will open. If not there are "Add a Fare" machines nearby where, after inserting your ticket, it will tell you how much more you need to pay to get out of the station. Then, come up the escalator to Market Street, and look for the bus shelter marked for the "21" bus (on the sidewalk, not on the island in the street). Note you need to be on the west side of the street (the same side City Hall is on- the big building with the dome). You will need exact change of $1.50 payable as you board. You can tell the driver (if its not too crowded) you wish to get off at Lyon St. The bus will stop at Lyon and Hayes. After getting off the bus, walk down Lyon toward the Park and you'll see the house on the corner on the right side.

Oakland International Airport (OAK): After collecting your luggage, you go out to the outer island and pick up the Air BART Connector Bus. It will take you to the Coliseum BART station. The bus will cost you $2.00, exact change. Once at the station, follow the directions for getting on BART, going to San Francisco. You will also want to get off at the Civic Center stop and follow the same directions as above. If you are coming by other means- space shuttle, horse & buggy, etc., please call us at 415.931.2460. We'll be happy to guide you in!
Try not to use San Jose Airport it is too far away and will cost you far too much in ground transportation.
NOTE: We cannot accommodate those who come early and wish to stay at the Urban House. Many families/ friends make a weekend of it and stay in some of our nearby hotels. We recommend you look at the websites for The Stanyan Park Hotel (http://www.stanyanpark.com/) and The Metro Hotel (http://www.metrohotelsf.com/) to arrange accommodations within walking distance of SF Urban.
